"Calisto" Tactical, Utility, Working, Defensive Collaborative Knife by Rusty Russom and Jay Fisher
  • Size: Length overall: 7.75" (19.6 cm), Blade Length: 3.5" (8.9 cm), Thickness: .150" (3.8 mm)
  • Weight: Knife: 5.0 oz. (142 grams) Sheath: 7.0 oz. (198 grams)
  • Blade: 440C High Chromium Martensitic Stainless Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C58, Bead Blasted
  • Bolsters, Fittings: 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel, Satin Finish
  • Handle: Black/Red Canvas Reinforced Micarta Phenolic
  • Sheath: Locking Kydex, Aluminum, Stainless Steel Mechanism, Nickel Plated Steel
  • Knife: The Calisto has a useful, thick and strong curvature with plenty of belly and a deep hollow grind. The blade is 440C high chromium stainless steel and bead-blasted for a no glare and extremely low care finish. We hardened and tempered the blade at 58HRC, for a  long lasting, wear resistant edge. The blade has a fully tapered tang for balance, with substantial thickness for a knife this size. The bolsters are 304 stainless steel, with a satin finish that bed a pair of polished red and black micarta scales. Four 1/8" through tang pins hold the micarta securely against the tang. The micarta is heat and wear resistant and adds durability to this already stout knife. The handle balances at the point between the first two fingers. The curve of the handle rests against the base of the thumb, fitting snugly in the palm of the hand. The satin finish and the smoothly rounded spine and finger grooves give the knife a solid and sure grip. A thumb rise gives added purchase when holding the knife and aids in greater pressure for tough cutting chores. This robust knife would be great for any utility chores or as a tactical defensive knife. The size and weight of this knife makes it fast and strong.
  • Sheath: The sheath for this knife is in a very versatile waterproof, locking tactical model, made of double thick kydex, 5052H32 corrosion resistant aluminum, all stainless steel locking mechanism and machine screws, and nickel plated steel Chicago screws; the toughest, most secure locking sheath made. Two 2.5" die cast aluminum belt loops were created for traditional wear and are reversible to either side of the sheath. A belt loop plate was also created for horizontal wear against the small of the back, right side, edge down as well as right side, left hand crossdraw. If worn in this style the belt loops are designed to fit a thin, medium weight belt, not a heavy or thick tactical belt.
  • Wearing: This is rare knife that can be worn in many positions, including in the small of the back (see detailed photo set below). I have personally worn it and found it to be very light weight, and comfortable, even when seated. It is easy to unsheathe, and with moderate care, easy to sheath. While we do not encourage concealed carry, this knife sheath is extremely convenient and inconspicuous. Important note: In some states and locations it is illegal to carry knives concealed. In our state, knives may be carried concealed on private property and by certain officials. Read this page and consult your own state and locality's laws to make certain your carry method is legal.
  • The Calisto is a strong knife that is a great defensive tactical knife as well as suited to utility or daily use, with a practical and extremely versatile sheath system.

Thanks, D.K.!
