"Cygnus" Fine Handmade Chef's, Utility, Working Knife

Cygnus is named for a the Northern Star constellation, and also means The Swan. This Cygnus is graceful and elegant, with a traditionally styled drop point thin blade that reminds me of a lighter version of the French Sabatier chef's knife. The knife would be great in the kitchen, a chef's hand, or for utility work and is fine enough for collection. This Cygnus has a hollow ground and mirror polished 440C high chromium martensitic stainless steel blade, razor sharp and very thin at the edge and point, with variable filework patterns at the spine for unique flair and improved purchase for the finger or thumb, while the handle is smooth and easy to clean. The blade has a fully tapered tang for weight balance, and is bolstered with high chromium, high nickel 304 austenitic stainless steel, the same steel used to make stainless bolts, screws, and fasteners, very tough indeed! The bolsters are dovetailed and bed a pair of striking and unique Orbicular Jasper gemstone handle scales, with bright yellow orbs in a sea of green and white. This is a rather rare stone, and I've only seen several small pieces of it in my entire career. It's brightly polished, smooth, glassy, and comfortable in the hand.

To sheath this knife, I made a sheath from hand-carved and tooled 9-10 oz. leather shoulder, carved in leafy forms and hand-molded, and dyed the entire sheath body a deep green. I hand-laced the sheath with glazed Buffalo calf lace, and lacquered and sealed the sheath.

This is a great knife, suitable for any task in the kitchen, for utility chores, or all around collection.
